ADCAS backs Open Doors initiative

The construction industry can offer people of all different ages and backgrounds exciting careers. However, some may not be aware that there is so much more to the industry than just building – from design and engineering through to project planning.

The Open Doors initiative, delivered by Build UK, takes visitors behind the scenes to showcase the fantastic range of careers available in the UK construction industry.

Open Doors 2026 took place from 23rd- 28th March and offered an opportunity to visit construction sites and workplaces across the country to see what it is like to work in the industry and the wide range of careers available. In total, 240 events took place across the UK and attracted over 6,500 visitors, including students, careers advisers and career changers.

The next Open Doors is set to be even bigger and will take place throughout the whole of March 2027. Construction projects participating will range from houses to skyscrapers, with manufacturing facilities, offices and training centres also opening their doors to demonstrate the off-site roles across the sector.

ADCAS recognises the importance of attracting young people to the industry by showing them exactly what it has to offer and is therefore encouraging members to get involved with the Open Doors 2027 initiative.

  • 15 September 26 – Coordinator’s meeting

Find out about exciting plans for Open Doors 2027

  • 5 October 26 – Registration opens for events

Maximise bookings by uploading events early

  • November 26 – Exclusive preview event

Generate interest amongst key stakeholders

  • 30 November 26 – Early bird deadline

Upload as many events as possible before Christmas

  • 11 January 27 – Booking opens for visitors

Inspire potential new entrants to book their visit

  • 2 February 27 – Coordinator’s meeting

Get ready to host successful events

  • 12 February 27 – Registration closes for events

Upload and promote and final events

  • March 27 – Open Doors 2027
